Measure the wall at multiple heights

Walls can be out of square, and baseboard or trim may reduce usable width near the floor.

Mark plumbing and electrical locations

Photograph and measure the drain, water supplies, outlets, switches and lights before removing the existing vanity.

Check door and drawer travel

A vanity may physically fit the wall while a drawer collides with trim, a toilet, adjacent cabinet or open door.

Account for the countertop

Countertop dimensions and overhang can be different from the cabinet box dimensions.
